2001: A Space Odyssey

First time seeing this on a cinema screen, and have probably not managed to sit through the whole thing more than once since watching it the first time (probably a bit stoned) at a friend's when I was around 18.

On that occasion we also watched The Shining, and I can't remember in what order but I imagine we watched The Shining first.

To say both films made an impression is a massive understatement – for a while Kubrick became the most important influence on my photography and film making ambitions, and the stargate sequence probably set me on the path to wanting to make motion graphic work. It certainly got me experimenting with lots of in camera effects at art college.

Kubrick's geometric, formal compositions in The Shining would later inform my architecture photography.
